A BUDDING young model has been selected to appear in the final of a national beauty pageant.

Balloch beauty Leigh Cunningham, 18, will now fight for the crown of National Princess of the World at the contest in London.

Finalists from all over the UK will model for judges at the glitzy event in an evening gown of their choice, a bikini and casual wear.

The final will be shown on Sky TV and one lucky winner will go on to represent the UK in September in an international final on a cruise ship which will sail around the Mediterranean.

Gorgeous Leigh was delighted when the modelling photos she sent to the competition convinced judges she deserved a place in the final.

Leigh said: "I found the competition online and sent away some of my photos - I just came across it and I thought why not.

"I only enter certain competitions as I have been told that some are scams, so I look into them and make sure they are okay.

"I'm already signed with a modelling agency and I've done some catalogue work - that was when I was 17.

"I don't get nervous with stuff like this, I'm excited about going down to London but I'm a bit scared at the same time because I don't know who I'm up against.

"I really enjoy meeting new people.

"My family are all excited, my mum and nan and little sister are coming down with me.

"If you get into the grand final you get taken to a number of countries and I'd love to go to Greece because my nan's sister is over there and we could visit."

The former Vale of Leven Academy pupil, is currently studying interior design at Clydebank College and is hopeful that in the future she can juggle a career in that field along with modelling. Leigh's mum Carol cannot wait to watch her daughter on the catwalk in July.

She said: "I'm really proud of her - she's been in that many competitions, she gets in a lot.

"It makes me really proud, I always go with her and make sure everything is alright.

"She is really motivated and she has got a sensible head on her shoulders."

The final will be filmed for SKY channel 184 BEN TV and all chosen finalists will receive pageant coaching from UK "Choreographer of the Year" Mr Fierce.

Leigh is appealing for a business to sponsor her for the competition and in return it will receive free advertising with the competition.

If a anyone is interested in sponsoring Leigh they can reach her on 01389 605913.
